Hey y’all, have you been to Neighborhood bar yet? A few friends and I crossed the street from Madre after dinner when we weren’t yet ready to call it a night.
It was less busy by the time we arrived, after the crowds drawn in for free pizza night and trivia subsided.
It feels like someone’s cool basement or rec room, which makes it an easy destination for a group hangout. They also have a no-tipping model, which meant my $12 margarita was $12.
I’ll be back!

STORYLINES | News shaping the future
Absentee (vote by mail) ballot distribution will be delayed, possibly by two weeks, because of a legal challenge by Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., to remove his name from the ballot and reprint before they’re sent out.
About 125,000 absentee ballots have already been requested and today was the deadline by state law to distribute them. [WUNC]
But absentee ballot distribution timing aside, there are several upcoming voter deadlines and I want to make sure y’all know them:
Oct. 11: Voter registration deadline (5 p.m.)
Oct. 17: In-person early voting begins. Same-day registration available.
Oct. 29: Absentee ballot request deadline (5 p.m.)
If voting by mail is your plan, it’ll be more complicated this year, which You Can Vote outlines here.
Nov. 2: In-person early voting ends (3 p.m.)
Nov. 5: Election Day.
Nov. 5: Absentee ballot return deadline (7:30 p.m.)
What else do you want to know about voting? Reply and I’ll track down the answers.
THE NEWS DIGEST
School reassignment plan: A proposal for next year’s school assignments is open for feedback. Most of the reassignments are connected with Holly Springs, Apex and Fuquay-Varina schools, as T. Keung Hui outlines for the N&O. ➡️ Use this tool to check your address.
Greenway connector open: The Crabtree Creek Greenway Trail is open, which is a big deal because the two-mile trail connects the regional greenway system (Capital Area Greenway System) to Umstead State Park. There’s an event at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Have a say in Red Hat Amphitheater’s future: Two public meetings are scheduled before the Raleigh City Council’s vote on Sept. 17. An “open house” for feedback will be 6-7:30 p.m. Monday at the Martin Marietta Center for the Performing Arts and there will be a public hearing at 1 p.m. the day of the vote. [WRAL]
